Carl's Healthy Lawn & Turf Fertilizer Program

Hi,

I am Carl Hendricks, owner, with my wife, Nancy, of “Fresh To You Produce and Garden Center”.  Here is a great yearly fertilizer program for your lawn, which is the exact same one that I use on my own lawn.

This fertilizer program is designed to give you deep green color, maximum root development, a thick full turf, minimal thatch build-up and slower total actual growth.  Also you will only have to do three applications a year.  These results are in comparison to what you would get using common fast release nitrogen fertilizers.

When you follow this program; combined with watering correctly at the rate of 1” of water once a week and mowing once a week to between 1 1/2” & 2” tall you will enjoy a lush, green and healthy lawn. You only put on the nutrients your lawn needs thereby reducing leaching into the ground water and using less water over all. With fewer mowings this summer you can…… take in a Mariners game!

March 1st

Apply:

• Fertilome's "Classic Winterizer Fertilizer" at the rate of 20 lbs. per 4000 square feet.
• Fertilome's "Soil Activator" containing Humates, which do great things for your plants, at the rate of 40 lbs per 4000 square feet.
• "Perfection Brand" pelletized lime, at the rate of 50 lbs per 4000 square feet.
• Hi Yield's "Terf Ranger" at the rate of 10 lbs. per 4000 square feet for European Crane Fly Control.
• If you have a moss problem in your lawn, I would suggest that you substitute Fertilome's "Classic Lawn Food with Moss Control".

June 1st

Apply:

September 1st

Apply:

• Fertilome's "Soil Activator" containing Humates, which do great things for your plants, at the rate of 40 lbs per 4000 square feet.
• "Perfection Brand" a pelletized lime, which contains calcium at the rate of 50 lbs per 4000 square feet.
• Hi Yield's "Turf Ranger" at the rate of 10 lbs. per 4000 square feet for European Crane Fly Control.

Renovating Your Lawn Without Tilling

Are you thinking of reseeding your lawn but don't want the hassle or expense of roto-tilling? Herre is an alternative system using compost.

1. Spray out the old lawn using Hi-yield "KILL-ZALL"
   Wait 1 week - if anything is still green, spray it again
2. Mow the lawn as short as you can. If there is a lot of thatch you may want to thatch the lawn.
3. Apply "SOIL ACTIVATOR" at the rate of 20 lbs per 2000 square feet.
4. Spread Compost ½ to 1 inch thick over the entire lawn; rake it out smooth and level.
5. Apply ferti-lome "NEW LAWN STARTER" fertilizer at the rate of 20 lbs per 5000 square feet.
6. Roll once with water filled roller. Check for levelness.
7. Spread lawn seed at the rate of 1 lb. per 100 square feet.
8. Rake in seed up to ¼" depth
9. Roll with water-filled roller two times.
10. Water it lightly. Keep it moist but do not allow water to puddle, until lawn turns green.
