Fall started and the rains came! Guess that is the way the wather works here in Oregon! But I am always a little sad to see the sunny days vanish. I know we will have more, though, and that keeps me excited about harvesting!
The tomatoes are still doing well. I am so happy to have a good tomato year. I am busy making sauce for 2 of my daughters for the winter. We are also having Fresh To You tomato sauce made this year--so be sure to try some when it arrives.
We have one more planting of corn to harvest.
We leave some standing for our hay rides!
The peaches are grown over in Eastern Oregon in Kimberly. They have a later season. It is nice to have Elberta's since they are good eaten fresh or canned for the winter. I love opening a jar in January! I haven't canned peaches yet this year--maybe this wekend!
The peppers are also wonderful this year. We are growing them on black plastic and the radiated heat really helps them size up nicely.
We have harvested a few winter squash. They are ripening well and we will have some in the boxes in a few weeks.
The pumpkins are being gathered--nice orange and white ones! We'll put one in the CSA box closer to Halloween. We have pie pumpkins that are great cooked and made into pies, cookies or soups.
Come see us for our harvest activities. Oct 22 and 29 we will have horse drawn carriage rides!
See you soon,
Nancy and team
