Carl and I were in California last week at the National Heirloom Conference in Santa Rosa. Wonderful ideas for varieties to plant for next year. Tomatoes, melons, squash, peppers. Listened to Diana Ott, the founder of seed savers exchange--inspiring! Alice Waters told us about her 40 years of owning Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Calif; the author of Heirloom Tomatoes gave a wonderful talk of her life adventure growing and writing about delicious vegetables. We look forward to incorporating ideas into our business as time goes by.
This is a fabulous tomato year here in Oregon! Make some fresh salsa using the recipe on our website. A true toast to summer! We plan to have corn for dinner--missed that while we were gone.
The hay maze is being completed today. We will have horse and carriage rides the last 3 Saturdays in October. And the pumpkins are looking great. Please plan to join us for our harvest activities--say quack quack to the ducks!
Remember that all our plants are 50% off through September 30 (not mums or other annuals though) . We have a nice selection still--and fall is a great time to plant.
I was really surprised to see how much the fall cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower grew while we were gone--only in one week they really shot up. Lots of good eating ahead.
