October 6 Farm Notes
October 06, 2011 at 1:07 PM
Seems like when the calendar turned to October the weather changed dramatically! Cooler nights and rain! We will really appreciate any sunny days we get from now on. Fortunately there are plenty of crops that do well in the fall. The lettuce and spinach are doing very well; the cabbage and cauliflower are starting to size up; potatoes are ready to be dug on the next dry day; and we have a room full of tomatoes.
It is also time to start planting seeds for more fall and winter harvests. I plan to plant kale, radishes, and more lettuce and spinach.
We have been talking with several chefs at Salem restaurants to see if they would like to buy some of our fabulous produce. If you have a favorite restaurant let us know and we'll talk to the chef there as well.
Winter squash has started ripening so we will harvest more next week. We also have some wonderful pie pumpkins--dual purpose!
We will have horse drawn carriage rides on October 22 and 29th from 12-5. Hope you can come join the fun!
See you soon,
Nancy and team
