Fall is definately in the air! We are harvesting winter squash and kale. When the nights get cool the kale takes on a wonderful flavor. Add it to soups or saute with a little garlic and olive oil.
We have started having field trips with the local schools. I love to see the young ones get excited about pumpkins and the hay ride. The ducks quack as the ride goes by.
Fall also means pears and apples. The bartlett pears are excellent right now. Apples are ripening a little slower this year...good for thanksgiving pies!
We are picking our last planting of corn. It is so good and tender right now. I am always sad when the season ends.
Carl and I are making pink sauerkraut! We used mostly green cabbage and added a few red ones. We haven't made sauerkraut for about twelve years, so I am anxious to see how it turns out.
We have also been drying and pickling peppers. Our pepper crop is so bountiful this year.
If you want quantities of pears for canning, let us know and we will hold a box for you.
Enjoy the moments of sun as they appear!
Come ride the hay wagon!
See you soon..Nancy and crew
