CSA Produce Boxes Starting this week
June 01, 2011 at 5:39 PM
We are so excited to start the CSA produce box harvest this week! We have been planting for months and it is so rewarding to start harvesting. The weather has been cool as we all know, so crops are slower than normal. Our goal is to put in some more hoop houses, hopefully this winter, so that we can be less dependent on the weather!
We planted new strawberries a few weeks ago. We should get a few berries off them later this summer. We need more sunshine before the berries that we planted last year will ripen and have sweet flavor. Maybe by next week--I hear the weekend is going to be warm!
We are now planting our pumpkins and winter squash. Also, more cucumbers and summer squash. We have some more tomatoes to plant--in addition to the 500 already planted. Carl is trying a new staking system this year, and we are trying some of the new grafted tomatoes. Peppers will be planted after the sun is out for a few more days.
The garden is changing daily--lettuce, broccoli, etc are growing by leaps and bounds.
Come see us anytime! Enjoy the sun.
